Before You Begin

The printable pattern includes two cutting lines:

  • Black Cutting Line – Use this to cut your fabric pieces.
  • Red Cutting Line – This indicates the finished size for your fusible interfacing (or fusible fleece).

To use the pattern:

  1. Print the pattern at 100% scale.
  2. Cut out the pattern along the black cutting line and use it to cut all of your fabric pieces.
  3. Once your fabric has been cut, trim the paper pattern along the red cutting line and use the smaller template to cut your interfacing.

Tip: If you'd prefer not to trim your original pattern, simply print a second copy, use one for cutting your fabric and the other for cutting your interfacing.

Step 3 - Optional

Baste stitch approximately ⅛" around the raw edges to keep the fabric and interfacing together during construction.

Waffle cone texture stitching

Step 4

Create the waffle cone texture.

This is one of our favorite parts of the project!

Using the NECCHI NC-103D, we selected the built-in Triple Stitch to create bold stitched lines that really make the cone texture stand out. Draw your diagonal guide lines first using a removable fabric marking pen if desired.

Don't worry if your lines aren't perfectly straight—the handmade look adds character!

Zipper tabs fold

Step 5

Prepare your zipper tabs by folding and pressing both sides inward and then in half.

Step 6

Place your zipper along the straight edge of the ice cream cone and trim it to fit if necessary.

Step 7

Step 8

Carefully cut open the folded edge of each zipper tab and trim the excess zipper inside the tab. This helps reduce bulk when finishing the pouch.

Step 9

Align the zipper with the folded edge of the ice cream top and pin in place.

Step 14

Finish the raw edges.

For this project we used the Overlock Stitch on the NECCHI NC-103D together with the included Overcasting Foot. This creates a beautiful clean finish and helps prevent fraying.

If your machine doesn't include this stitch, a standard zigzag stitch sewn close to the raw edge works perfectly as well.

Step 15

Turn the pouch right side out through the open zipper.

Use a blunt turning tool or chopstick to gently push out the cone tip.
