Measure Your Plant Pot
Before you cut your fabric, you’ll need to measure your pot for a perfect fit.
Here’s how:
- Measure the height and width of your pot.
- Pro Tip: For an accurate width, trace the widest part of your pot onto paper and measure the diameter of the outline.
Cutting Your Fabric Squares
After measuring your plant pot, use the form below to calculate the size you will need to cut your outer and liner fabric:
For example:
A pot that’s 3.5” wide x 3” tall, with a 0.5” fold over and 0.25” seam allowance, would need a 12.5” square.
Once you have your square measurement, cut:
- 1 Square – outer fabric
- 1 Square – lining fabric
Prepping the Corners
To shape the fabric square into a box, you’ll need to cut squares from each corner. Use this formula to determine the square measurement you need to cut:
For example:
A pot that’s 3.5” wide x 3” tall, with a 0.5” fold over and 0.25” seam allowance, would need 4.25” squares cut from each corner.
After calculating your corner square size, use a fabric marker or chalk to draw your cut lines on your outer fabric and liner fabric squares.
💡 Embroidery Tip: If you plan to embroider your plant pot cover, wait to cut your corners until after embroidery. This makes hooping easier!
Cut all 4 corners of your outer and liner fabric squares.
