Materials You’ll Need:
- 1 yard of main fabric for the apron body and tie strap
- 1 yard of liner fabric for the inner pocket
- Iron & ironing board
- Fabric pins or clips
- Sewing Machine (We used the NECCHI Creator Series C360!)
Cut List:
- (1) Main Fabric – Apron Body (cut on fold)
- (1) Liner Fabric – Pocket (cut on fold)
- (2) Main Fabric strips – 2.5” x 16” for side binding
- 4” wide strips from main fabric for waist tie (cut as many as needed for your preferred style):
- For ties in the back: Waist measurement + 30”
- For wraparound ties in the front: (Waist measurement x 2) + 30”
Prep & Cutting Instructions:
Download & print the FREE NECCHI Waist Apron Pattern.
Be sure to print at Actual Size, 100% scale (no scaling).
- Fold your fabric, align the pattern on the fold as directed, and cut your main fabric. Add 16 inches to the bottom of the pattern piece as noted.
- Repeat for the liner fabric using the same pattern and length extension.
- Cut out your tie straps using 4” strips from your main fabric. Sew together as needed to reach your desired length.
- Cut 2 binding strips measuring 2.5” x 16” from your main fabric. Set aside.
- Construct the tie strap by joining strips:
Place right sides together and sew a diagonal seam.
Trim excess.
Press open.
6. Press the strip to form the tie strap:
Fold and press the edges inward.
Fold again and press. Set aside.
Sew the Apron Body:
7. Place your main fabric and liner piece right sides together.
8. Sew along the sides, curves, and top with a ¼” seam allowance. Leave the bottom open for turning.
9. Trim corners and clip curves for smooth edges.
10. Turn right-side out and press flat.
11. Fold in half vertically to form the pocket section.
12. Baste the sides to hold layers in place.
13. Attach side binding strips using your preferred method. Tuck and fold the bottom binding neatly to finish the lower edge. No need to bind the top—your tie strap will do the work!
Add the Waist Tie:
14. Find the center of your tie strap and the top center of the apron.
15. Open the tie strap and align the center of the apron top within it.
16. Pin in place and prep to sew.
17. Finish the tie strap ends:
Open one strap end.
Fold in half right sides together, and sew the short top edge.
Trim the corners.
Turn right side out, and press. Repeat for other end.
18. Sew along the entire open edge of the strap, enclosing the apron top and finishing the strap.
